The French ambassador to Canberra said Australia had made a major diplomatic mistake by abandoning multibillion-dollar orders from French submarines for an alternative deal with the United States and Britain. He added that Australia's action was a very bad attitude towards a partnership that was supposed to be based on trust, mutual understanding and honesty.
