Egyptian court sentences eight foreigners to death for heroin trafficking


Syrian army resumes bombardment of areas controlled by opponents of Bashar al-Assad's regime in southern Syria on Sunday after violating the ceasefire agreement with the support of Iranian-backed militants.

A former U.S. Marine Corps gunman shot dead four people, including an infant, and an 11-year-old boy was taken to a hospital in Florida, police said. The 33-year-old shooter was also hospitalized due to his injuries

The State Department condemned in a statement the Iranian-backed Houthi rocket attack on the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. "Once again, we urge the Houthis to immediately agree to a comprehensive ceasefire and to end foreign and international attacks in Yemen," the State Department said.

Some news sources, including a CBS correspondent, say Maulvi Fassihuddin, a senior Taliban commander and the group's chief of operations in northeastern Afghanistan, was killed in a battle with the Popular Resistance Front in Panjshir.

In a meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghani Brother and Taliban officials in Kabul on Sunday, UNHCR Representative Martin Griffiths said he reaffirmed the organization's commitment to providing unbiased humanitarian assistance and supporting the millions in need in Afghanistan.
